STAGE 2 - STRENGTH IN THE STRUGGLE

# LIFE CAN BE TOUGH, BUT SO ARE YOU

# GROW tHROUGH WHAT YOU GO THROUGH

PURPOSE:

Life is full of ups and downs. We all struggle at times. We are not alone.

To flourish in life, even in the midst of hard times, we first need to acknowledge the difficulties and struggles we’re facing: things that hold us back and pull us down.

For this Design Project we will be making a soft felt heart to help us express these difficulties and struggles, where we can write down what we are dealing with on the paper hearts and attach them to the ribbons. This can help us understand why at times we can feel unhappy, confused and isolated. We can also put the things that we have overcome within our hearts, reminding us that they make us stronger and fuller.

When we acknowledge the things that are holding us back or pulling us down, and put them on paper, instead of just swirling in our heads, they begin to have less effect and we can seek ways to overcome them. We can see them for what they are, make a plan to move forward, and ask for help where we need it.

We can’t stop the waves of life coming at us, but we can learn to surf them.

We also want to acknowledge that we are already overcomers. We have already faced challenges and are moving through them. We have what it takes to get through hard times.

Everything we go through is an opportunity to learn and grow. Even here and now, you are blooming. You are stronger, braver and more capable than you know.

DISCUSSION POINTS:

  • What makes you stronger when you face difficulties?

  • Do you notice if you act differently when you are facing something hard? What do you do?

  • What struggles in life have you already overcome? Big or small?

  • Knowing that you have overcome some difficulties, does this make you more confident that you can overcome more?

  •  We grow through what we go through. How have you grown or what lessons have you learned from challenges you have faced?

  •  The story of the mountains you climb and the valleys you walk through could be the pages of someone else’s survival guide. How can you help others with the challenges you have faced?

  •  We can’t stop the waves of life that come us at, but how can you learn to surf them?

  • Who are some safe people you can go to when you need help?

  • Is there anything you are facing at the moment that you are finding difficult?

  • What good things can you fill your life with?
