Love this. Last year, I was really struggling in a season of continually pain, loss and grief. I turned to the seasons of nature to see if I could learn anything to help me thrive in the season I was in. Oh yes!
🍁AUTUMN
Harvest / letting go / surrender / preparation
❄️WINTER
Slowing down / rest / hidden / pause / ponder / press in / conceive
🌺SPRING
Bursting into bloom / growth / new / moving forward
☀️SUMMER
Cultivating / watering / nourishing / pruning / refining / following the sun
I learnt that each season produces what is needed for the next.
Every season has purpose.
Yes, every season. I was in a winter season and learning that winter, when we might feel hidden and even buried in darkness, is where the depths of roots take place — is where growth, newness and dreams are conceived.
A seed falls to the ground in Autumn, along with the leaves that leave trees looking dead, but actually they are conserving energy and getting rid of what could kill them in the icy winter. Their leaves become the protection for the soil.
And deep in the soil, in darkness and isolation, that seed begins to slowly grow deep roots. It then breaks open (growing can feel like breaking hey) and breaks it’s way to the surface.
Where in spring it continues to grow but now out in the open. This is the blooming we see, but that seed was growing long before we saw it pop to the surface. And it is all thanks to the melting frost of winter nourishing the ground.
In summer, the seed is cultivated, enriched, pruned for even greater harvest, come Autumn. And the cycle continues.
Knowing what season we are in can really help us find purpose, see the wonder of that season and experience the gifts that only that season can bring. For it is preparing us for the next.
